We have incorporated as many characteristics of the traditional katana as possible into the Noble Katana to honor the great design of the historical craftsman. We use our own method of hilt construction to increase strength by taking the tang all the way to the base of the of the hilt and peening it to lock everything together for long term durability.
The Katana is the traditional weapon of the Samurai warrior. These weapons were highly prized for their beauty, strength, and durability. The bevel on the Noble Katana is deeper than on our other Katanas for a more realistic appearance. It extends from the edge almost to the back of the blade. The edge is still 3/16" wide and rounded for safety. The feel of this sword in hand and in motion is much different from the European style swords. By comparing the feel of the Katana in motion with a "Knight Sword" gives a sense of the different armed martial art styles between east and west. It has a nice light ringing sound as it strikes or parries.
The 7075 aluminum alloy blade makes this a very durable weapon. The hilt components are constructed of blued steel which give an attractive and durable appearance. The bluing process that we use makes the steel an attractive brownish black color that resembles oil rubbed bronze. The guard (Tsuba) is not a flat piece of steel. It is shaped thicker in the center than on the edges which provides an elegant appearance and needed weight for balance. The handle is wrapped with leather in a traditional diamond pattern.
