The Longsword is also known as the hand and a half sword because it could be used with one or two hands. Its popularity grew in European cultures during the mid to late middle ages as the use of shields diminished and plate armor became an ever more effective defence. The reach and power of the longer and heavier sword was much more effective against plate armor in battle. Sword-fighting Techniques changed and advanced greatly with the use of the Longsword with no shield.
The medieval swordsmith's art of balancing strength and agility in a sword was at its height with the development of the Longsword. While this sword is long and a little heavier it has a suprising feel of strength and agility when in motion that is best described as powerful elegance. It is much more lively and easy to handle than it appears.
The blade is crafted from 7075 aluminum alloy which has a very high strenth to weight ratio. It also has a great ability to spring back to its straight profile when stressed. It is a great balance between strength and flexability like a well tempered steel. The Guard and pommel are Aluminum alloy as well which makes an overall lightweight and durable sword. |
